Slinger Sports
In the 2025-2026 school year, Slinger Social Studies students researched local sports history. The result was adding to some previous research students had done on sports teams and individuals. Some of the information researched by students is shared below. Students will continue adding depth. Special thanks to the HS Technical Education department for collaboration on the sports topic.
"What is unique about cross country, there is opportunity for kids of all ages to participate and build from there. Work with people from all ages…..it’s fascinating to see the frosh, sophomores, juniors, and seniors meld. It’s an equal opportunity sport."
~Terry Krall
"I was fortunate enough to have many talented teammates and we won many meets and conference titles. The teams I was a part of were a lot of fun and everyone was very close."
~Cathy Branta
"Not everything is going to go perfectly you know. Success isn't a linear curve; it's usually an up and down one and that can be the most frustrating thing."
`Mya Bunke

"Running teaches you a lot of important life skills. It teaches you to be determined, you can never give up. It teaches you a lot of resilience. You are not always going to have a good race, but you just have to use that to motivate you for the future and not let things get you down. This will teach us a lot of skills for the future. We are all going to need to be very resilient."

"There is a lot that goes into being a good athlete. The dedication, the hard work, the time management skills to balance everything. There is school and athletics and social things. Athletics lays a good foundation for building all those skills that you’ll need to succeed later in life. "

"It’s super fun to see everyone always at the games and so supportive. And even off the court
when we are done with the games. And even in social settings to talk volleyball and know the
community supports you."

“Running out on the field was unlike anything I had ever experienced. Seeing the crowd was unbelievable (it seemed like every last person in the population of Slinger was there.”
Kobe Hendricks (member of the 2024 State Championship Football Team)
“It was just a really special experience to feel the community coming together. The whole school system coming together, the teachers, the administration. It was just an awesome experience that we talked about at our reunions for a long time.”
-Greg Jonas (1977 State Boys Basketball team member, quote from WB Daily News)
